SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 23

Congratulating Angela Cavender for her selection as the "1998
School Nurse of the Year" and recognizing the importance of
school nursing to the educational system.
Whereas, Certified school nurses like Angela Cavender
strengthen and facilitate the educational process by modifying or
removing health-related barriers to learning in individual students
and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and
staff; and
Whereas, Certified school nurses like Angela Cavender assume
responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention,
evaluation, management and referral activities; and
Whereas, Certified school nurses like Angela Cavender provide
relevant instruction, counseling and guidance to students, parents,
staff and others concerning health-related issues; and
Whereas, Certified school nurses like Angela Cavender uphold
professional standards, the West Virginia Practice Act, the West
Virginia Department of Education certification and other state and
local statues and regulations applicable to school nursing
practice; and
Whereas, Certified school nurses like Angela Cavender deliver
the most accessible, cost effective, quality health care for West Virginia's students; and
Whereas, Angela Cavender has been an outstanding school nurse
in Kanawha County schools for eighteen years and has been named
West Virginia's "1998 School Nurse of the Year"; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby acknowledges the importance of school
nursing to the educational system of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby congratulates Angela
Cavender, R. N., for her dedicated service to the children of West
Virginia, and for her selection as the "1998 School Nurse of the
Year"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the 1998 School Nurse of the Year,
Angela Cavender, R. N..
